As part of the 4th annual Journées internationales de recherche et de pratique en pédagogie instrumentale et vocale in Geneva, Switzerland (February 24-25, 2017), Isabelle Héroux will be a panelist of honor for a conference demonstrating the applications of technology in the domain of instrumental and vocal teaching. She will also be providing a final report of her activities.
The Les gestes expressifs et le processus de création chez les musiciens interprètes conference will take place Thursday, January 26th 2017 at Université de Montréal. If the studies surrounding the role that gesticulation could have in language acquisition (McNeil 1992, 2005), it could play a similar for musicians. Davidson (2005) confirms that the performer can use movement to better illustrate musical ideas. For example, the light swaying of the body can convey a legato phrasing. If that is so, then are the motions demanded in the score by the dynamics or rather the performer’s own approach to the piece of music? Can we find a link between a musician’s gesticulations and the creative process? This conference will consist of an analysis of the movements that guitarists use when playing a piece of music.
